Ten – SOAS joins Changing Lives

The School of Oriental and African Studies joined Changing Lives in August 2017 for their inaugural trip to Jordan.

This program marked a number of firsts for the students as well as Changing Lives, with new partners, Middle East University and the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature joining us to create an even wider range of discussions and connections.

SOAS Students taught at Madrasati summer camps alongside their MEU counterparts and engaged in the Jordan Youth Innovation Forum with the help of the Princess Taghrid Institute. They were also generously hosted for briefings at the British Embassy in Amman and UNICEF MENA regional headquarters in Amman.

SOAS student Italo Brandimarte said “Although my stay in Jordan was only a few days long, I felt at home like nowhere else before. Whoever I talked to was eager to know who I am and where I am from, and especially ordinary people were always warm and welcoming, helping me re-discover a sense of humanity and inclusiveness which I believe we have lost long ago due to our frenetic lives.”
