The second Changing Lives was held at the Mastaba Boys School in Tal’et Al-Roz (near Jerash). These activities included the beautification of the school, the creation of a herb garden, sessions in art, music, entrepreneurship in photography, a variety of sporting activities, career guidance and debate workshops, just to name a few. All of these projects had a strong emphasis on improving the use of the English language for the local students and encouraged the cultural exchange between the two groups. All students interacted through the use of mind puzzles and word games, such as chess and scrabble, which proved to be a valuable exercise.
This was by far one of the most emotional programs. All involved witnessed dramatic changes to the preconceived views of the local headmaster and the subsequent changes in everyone – from the headmaster, teachers and boy students towards the Coventry students. On the fourth morning the English teacher told us that his students learned more English in the past three days than in the past 6 years!
